Dr. Haffner spoke about the Meeting of the International Astronomical Union
which was held in California last year, and from this passed on to a talk on
variable stars and other matters on which there was general discussion. Finally
Dr. Haffner explained how to adjust the polar axis on an equatorial mounting.
Tea was very kindly supplied by Mrs. Haffner.
March 23rd, 1962, Boyden Observatory, at 7.30 pm
Dr. Haffner gave a talk on the Schimdt telescope. After the Meeting, members
parted with regret from Dr. Haffner, who will be returning home shortly.

The Hon. Secretary reported that he had arranged for the supply of British Astronomical

4th Annual General Meeting. The Hon. Secretary read the Annual Report of the
Centre for the year 1961/62. Balance: R1,43½. The following office-holders

It was decided that the British Astronomical Association should be asked to
send Circulars by air-mail at an extra 6/- per annum. Dr. Geyer gave a talk
on Variable stars, after which there was general discussion. Members then observed
various objects through the 13 inch telescope.
